Florencia Castro joined Renfro Design Group, Inc. in July 2015. She graduated with honors in May 2015 from Parsons the New School of Design obtaining a MFA in Lighting Design.
Her interest involves approaching lighting design as a creative process yet technical challenge, as a complimentary practice between daylight and electric light, as a collaborative environment between colleagues, and as a medium to enhance the experience of architecture.
While at Parsons she was awarded a Dean’s Merit Scholarship that recognizes academically talented graduate students. In September 2014 she participated in the competition Design with Light by IES Philadelphia obtaining the first place for her contribution to the Philadelphia Cancer Center Project. Additionally, her thesis focused on the phenomenological behavior of daylight, exploring ways to re-frame our daily experience with light, within the constant changing and moving state of daylight.
Prior moving to New York City, Florencia practiced architecture in Mexico City. During this time her work focused on residential projects, collaborating from schematic design to construction management.
Her current projects include The Bridge at Cornell Tech in New York, NY; the Chapin School in New York, NY and several high-end residential projects.
Florencia is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Designer Lighting Forum of New York.
