Rebecca has been a Lighting Designer and Project Manager at Renfro Design Group since joining the firm in 1998. Rebecca received a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree, with a specialization in architectural lighting design, in 1995 from Pennsylvania State University. Currently, she is responsible for projects in design as well as under construction among which include the Museum of Science and Industry, The Johnson Museum of Art, University of Chicago, The Battery Park City Ferry Terminal in New York City and private residences in Philadelphia, PA.
Rebecca‘s ability to maintain the integrity of the original design concepts through the realities of construction has resulted in the successful completion of many projects. Her most recently completed project, the Bloch Building expansion for The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO opened to the public in June 2007, after an eight year design and construction period. It has since been recognized in national and international press for its innovative use of daylight and electric light to enhance the architecture, while providing illumination that is sensitive to the Museum’s art collection.
Past projects that have been illuminated by a team led by Rebecca include The Battery Park City Ferry Terminal in New York City; an expansion for the Phoenix Art Museum in Arizona, the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City, the Mattin Student Arts Center at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Delaware Center for the Arts, Schwartz Performing Arts Center at Emory University in Atlanta, Smith College Campus Center in Massachusetts, the Trinity College New Admissions Building in Connecticut, and the historical Saint Thomas Church in New York City.
Her work on the Robin Hood Library Initiative at PS 32 in New York City was recognized in 2006 by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America with a Lumen Award of Merit with Distinction for Civic Service from the New York Chapter and an International Illumination Design Award of Merit for the Northeast Region. Her work on the Bloch Building addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum has received many prestigious awards in 2008, which include two Lumen Awards (an outdoor Award of Excellence and an interior Award of Merit) from the New York Chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society, an interior Award of Merit from the IESNA, and an Outstanding Achievement Award from Architectural Lighting Magazine.
Before joining Renfro Design Group, she applied her design and management skills to all aspects of the lighting design process at Fisher Marantz Renfro Stone where she worked for nearly four years. While there, Rebecca began a professional collaboration with Richard, which has lasted for over a decade. Rebecca contributed to a variety of projects including the Bass Museum of Art in Miami, FL; the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City, facilities for Columbia and St. John‘s Universities and the interiors for several Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ships.
